In hard times, the soft stuff often goes away. But emotional intelligence, it turns out, isn’t so soft. If emotional obliviousness jeopardizes your ability to perform, fend off aggressors, or be compassionate in a crisis, no amount of attention to the bottom line will protect your career. Emotional intelligence isn’t a luxury you can dispense with in tough times. It’s a basic tool that, deployed with finesse, is the key to professional success.
- Harvard Business Review (2003)
Emotional intelligence reflects one’s ability to deal with daily environmental challenges and helps predict one’s success in life, including our professional and personal pursuits. The BarOn EQ family of instruments includes a self report known as the EQi,
the EQ Business Report, the EQ Leadership Report and the EQ 360.
We use the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i) as it is the first scientifically developed and validated measure of emotional intelligence. Research indicates that there is a strong correlation between emotional intelligence and job performance. The Good News is that Emotional Intelligence grows through life and can be improved through training. Collaborative Growth offers individual, team and organizational coaching and workshops to provide feedback on the EQ-i and to develop a plan of action with individuals or organizations in accordance with your goals.
Uses of the EQ-i abound. It is useful in corporate, clinical, educational, medical and research settings. Potential users come from many walks of life including human resources professionals, organizational development consultants, coaches, career counselors, guidance counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, and social workers.
Applications include:
-
Recruitment
- Development
-
Coaching Training
-
Team Building
- Conflict Resolution
-
Succession Planning
The EQ-i can be used by organizations for screening as part of the recruiting process to assist in identifying potentially successful employees. It can also be employed in identifying the emotional and social skills that are important to develop in employee training programs, team building, and in enhancing management capabilities at work. You can create a profile of the top performers in your organization to determine what skills are most valuable in your organization or for a particular position. The EQ-i is a valuable tool to use in improving and measuring the effectiveness of organizational development programs.
The BarOn EQ family of instruments includes a self report known as the EQi, the EQ Leadership Report and the EQ 360. The EQ-I provides information for each individual on 5 composite scales and 15 subscales:
